There's tons of jQuery concertina menus on the web but I needed one where the state of the menu is retained as the user navigates through the site. I also wanted to be able to expand multiple sub-menus and couldn't find anything suitable.

Features

The menu retains it's state when the page is re-loaded / user navigates to another page

Open / close multiple sub-menus

No need for the accordion plug-in

Separate buttons control the animation leaving the sub-menu link free to point at a dedicated page

Show / hide buttons are set to visible / invisible as appropriate
